After years of contending with the under-performing infrastructure of a building dating back to 1912, The Ritz underwent a $200 million modernization, which involved an almost complete gutting and an upgrade of the existing structure. SBSA was entrusted with the task of restoring what guests expected – by providing our client with the same high-quality service and outstanding design that one would expect while staying at The Ritz.
SBSA’s responsive and creative solutions to the many challenges posed by unexpected existing conditions contributed significantly to the successful restoration of this Montreal landmark.
Project highlights include:
- The demolition of an existing parking structure in poor condition to make room for an eleven-story
extension, which would house the ultimate luxury experience: the Residences at the Ritz-Carlton. - A two-floor vertical extension atop the existing hotel building to accommodate a new rooftop
pool and spa facility. - Numerous structural modifications and upgrades to the existing 100-year-old structure, along with
a seismic evaluation.
